This was a renovation project, The design of this project evolved around the existing framed structure with few walls and ceiling cut open to suit the new owners requirements . It was a narrow site and the existing ground floor wall to wall building was built and left unfinished with only walls and a roof. For the new owners we proposed to cut open the existing roof slab to accommodate a staircase and a double height living room on entry along with an open dining and a courtyard to let in the natural light and ventilation. Another floor was proposed to add two bedroom’s along with a lounge that overlooks the living and courtyard . This simple open vasthu planned house was done to make the living spaces appear large well ventilated and lit. However the limitations were that the room sizes had to be planned according to the existing framed structure. False ceiling was done in few areas to hide the existing beams since it was a renovation project. The house is compact with 3 bedroom’s and an open kitchen. exposed brick cladding was adopted to bring in texture and natural highlights to the interior.
