KGJ Hospital

We were commissioned to do a façade facelift for an existing structure , The proposed was for an existing hospital in Chennai looking for a fresh revamp in their functions and services.  The existing building was sandwiched in a tight neighborhood and was 4 storeyed. With limitations of an existing planar façade and maximum allowable extension of 18 inches from the existing planar façade we proposed an AL-CO paneled façade skin which would fold and and unfold randomly. The colour code was chosen to be neutral and in shades of grey to blend with the neighborhood and to contrast the heavy parametrically looking façade. The façade was fitted with top hung openable glass windows but they seem non existent because of the colour camaflounge, size and placement agreeing to the façade. Prime idea behind the façade was to create 50-50 visibility vs. cover , minimalistic pattern with 2 material types and a texture that creates a sense of verticality to make the building look taller and dominant in the vicinity.

A simple reception area counter was added with natural wooden tones to make it welcoming fitted with tailor made cupboards and drawers according to the requirements and functionality of the electronic devices used, the high counter was proposed for creating privacy, safety and security for the staff. The space being devoid of natural height made the existing ceiling height look low , to combat this we proposed vertical lines to create an illusion of higher ceiling and more a comfortable ambience the vitrified tiled flooring colour was chosen based in the colour code of the woods used.
