Selviik Organics
An organic dairy farm in the outskirts of Chennai for about 150 indigenous cattle was set up in about 5 acres of land; the project was developed under the guidance of DELAVAL. The requirement was two shelters that had to be designed and fabricated to suit cattle feeding breeding and milk production with the idea of using very little man force and easy logistics. The layout had to be cattle friendly aiding maintenance and management of cattle. Of the two units, one unit is where the milking process is carried using machinery and directly fed into the storage and packing facility, and the other larger unit for the feeding and housing of the cows. The structure is wide span with no central vertical support and the truss being designed using tubular sections and columns of ISMB section’s to minimize cost. Groves on the floor were done by placing fabricated grills on laying of concrete for easy drainage and maintenance of animal waste. And the roofing is of GI sheets.
