House of Openings
The property of this project was neighbouring adjacent to a mango plantation, the brief was to house a family of four and a single room accommodation for guests on top level separately accessed through an external staircase. The plan is simple trying to follow flow in spaces inside the house. The living room has views to the outside and neighbouring mango plantation, inviting plenty of sunlight during early hours of the day and pleasant natural light throughout the day the living room becomes very engaging privately inside while connected to the outside. The windows in the living room are planned deep inside roof slabs to have a shaded environment throughout the day.
The living room spills to the dining room with an open kitchen, the bedroom doors are niched to create privacy and unifies the living areas.
Entrance to the house is through a minimally designed veranda space with flamed grey granite flooring to create a sense of earthiness. The main door design doesn’t boast too much being simple and elegant. The horizontal grill lines secure the corner windows and also complement as a pattern to the entrance to the house.
The car park is extended on the corner to create a simple active feature to the elevation. The staircase area is open and lit naturally through a pattern of polygons which continues to the side of the house to feature as a design itself. The overhead tank and the single room above are hidden by the pattern wall and create an appearance of a singularity and complete the side elevation.
